GearHead: Arena gives you a character to build and a world to get lost in. You can explore towns, talk to people, take jobs, and fight both on foot and inside a mecha. The game combines character skills, machine customization, and a campaign whose story is assembled differently from one run to the next. Is this the original GearHead? Yes. Arena is the first GearHead RPG, separate from GearHead 2 and GearHead Caramel. This listing contains the graphical SDL Windows edition, not the ASCII-only release. Is it free? Yes. The direct download is the original 1.310 Windows ZIP published by Joseph Hewitt. Its older interface rewards a look at the included documentation, especially the movement keys and configuration options. The video is the developer's look back at Arena. Screenshots show the graphical game. This is a legacy release; current Windows compatibility has not been gameplay-tested by NeonRoof. License and credits GearHead: Arena is distributed under LGPL 2.1. The GearHead universe is copyright Joseph Hewitt; that copyright is not a public-domain dedication. Original title artwork and screenshots are credited to Joseph Hewitt and the GearHead contributors, used unchanged, with the upstream license and source linked.
