About FreeDOS

FreeDOS is a free, open-source DOS-compatible operating system founded by Jim Hall and developed by a community of contributors. It can run many classic DOS applications and games and is also useful for embedded tools, firmware tasks, retro development, and learning about PC-compatible systems.

The distribution includes a kernel, command shell, installer, help system, utilities, networking packages, games, and optional development tools. It can boot on compatible legacy hardware or run in emulators and virtual machines such as QEMU, VirtualBox, Bochs, or 86Box.

FreeDOS is a distribution made from many separately licensed packages rather than one uniformly licensed program. NeonRoof therefore treats the complete release and its package manifest as a special compliance review and does not mirror it automatically.

Independent catalog listing. NeonRoof is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jim Hall or the project's maintainers. The official project, creator, copyright holder, and license remain clearly credited. This catalog page may be published before a downloadable package is approved; no NeonRoof download is enabled until an administrator verifies the exact package, SHA-256 hash, malware scan, distribution rights, and applicable notices.
