About Rufus

Rufus is a free, open-source Windows utility created by Pete Batard for formatting USB drives and creating bootable media. It can write operating-system images, prepare installation drives, and support firmware or low-level system work where a bootable device is required.

The application is small, portable, and offers controls for partition schemes, target firmware, file systems, image modes, and bad-block checks. Official builds cover common Windows processor architectures and are published alongside the full source.

Rufus's GPL license allows redistribution when its terms are followed. Because writing a boot drive can erase the selected device, NeonRoof also presents clear use and backup expectations and leaves the exact binary disabled until package review is complete.

Independent catalog listing. NeonRoof is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pete Batard or the project's maintainers. The official project, creator, copyright holder, and license remain clearly credited. This catalog page may be published before a downloadable package is approved; no NeonRoof download is enabled until an administrator verifies the exact package, SHA-256 hash, malware scan, distribution rights, and applicable notices.

Rights review recorded September 8, 2026. Copyright: Pete Batard and Rufus contributors. Redistribution: Preserve GPLv3-or-later terms, copyright notices, and corresponding source availability for the distributed binary. Attribution: Credit Rufus and Pete Batard and retain the included notices. Source obligations: Provide corresponding source for the exact GPL-covered binary distributed. Branding: Neutral NeonRoof cover art is used; no official Rufus logo or endorsement is claimed.
