How do you know whether indie game marketing is working?
Measure each stage separately. Search impressions show visibility, clicks show that a result earned attention, page visits show on-site discovery, and wishlists, demo plays, downloads, purchases, or community joins show different levels of player intent. No single number proves success. A useful report connects the numbers without pretending they are interchangeable.

What is a search impression?
An impression is recorded when a result from the site appears in an eligible search result according to the search platform's reporting rules. It does not mean the searcher read the page, recognized the game, or clicked. Impressions are useful for judging whether a page is beginning to appear for relevant searches.
What are clicks and click-through rate?
A search click happens when a person selects the search result and visits the page. Click-through rate, usually called CTR, is clicks divided by impressions. A page may gain impressions before it earns many clicks. Review the title, description, relevance, recognizable game name, and the searcher's likely question before assuming the problem is ranking alone.
What does average position mean?
Average position summarizes where the highest result from the measured property appeared across reported impressions. It can combine different queries, devices, countries, and dates. Treat it as a directional measure, not an exact permanent rank. A position for a studio-name query is not the same opportunity as a position for a broad genre query.
Keep Search Console and site analytics separate
Search Console describes what happened in Google Search. NeonRoof analytics describe activity recorded on NeonRoof, such as page views and supported platform events. The date ranges, identifiers, processing delays, and definitions differ. Do not add the totals together or label site visits as Google clicks.
A clear launch report can show:
- Google impressions, clicks, CTR, and average position
- NeonRoof page views and unique visitors
- Trailer, demo, external wishlist, and download actions when available
- Claims, purchases, installs, or launches when the platform records them
- Countries reached using privacy-conscious aggregated reporting
- The exact date range, source, and last synchronization date
Diagnose the funnel instead of celebrating one number
High impressions with few clicks may point to weak relevance, an unclear title, or a result shown for exploratory queries. Clicks with short visits may signal that the page fails to answer the promise. Strong page engagement with few wishlists may mean the release proposition, media, timing, or call to action needs work. Downloads without successful launches can reveal packaging or compatibility problems.
Use the release-readiness checker, marketing plan builder, and the guide to build a searchable wishlist page to address the stage that is actually weak.
How NeonRoof reports results
The NeonRoof Indie Launch Program is designed to connect a permanent game page, developer profile, editorial support, platform discovery, and a defined results window. Search Console figures stay separate from internal traffic and player actions. Reports describe historical measurements and never promise a future ranking, download count, or sale.
